Central St Martins Exhibition

So, I have some pictures in a show if anyone would like to have a gander. A collaboration project by Jemma Gray of St Martins MA Creative Practice for Narrative Environments, myself and several others brought our talents together to help Jemma accomplish her aims for the project. If you'd like to know more then I suggest you get yourselves to the show! I shall be updating my website at some point over the weekend with the images, so if you can't make it to the show, or are simply too far away from London to even consider the trip, you'll be able to see the images (I shall also look into getting the final piece up at some point).

If you have an invite to the St Martins Private Views then I may see you on the 18th between 6-10pm, if not then the opening times and dates are below.

It's open to the public from the 21st June and runs until the 24th June (12-8pm), St Martins Southampton Row campus, London, WC1B 4AP and I believe the nearest tube is Holborn.

Hope you enjoy, and perhaps I shall see you at one of the other uni shows if not this one :)

Vice's Guide to Scrapping

I've had this link from Vice floating around for a while with a mind to stick it on here, so here it is. While I haven't been in a proper fight for quite some years (and I've no plans to get into one any time soon... I suppose that's part of the point though) I thought that this article was both funny and strangely true. Tell it like it is: http://www.viceland.com/int/v9n10/htdocs/beaten.php

Digital Economy Bill and BT

So, This morning I was casually surfing the net, checking out what my max' broadband speed might be (interesting, I know) when on BT's site one of those chat boxes popped up with the option to speak to an advisor. I figure why not, I can ask them about what speeds I could get with them and if they traffic shape etc. you never know, I might swap companies...

Anyway, I just thought the way this conversation ended was pretty funny (please excuse me being a little dopey, it was early. Also, I dunno if I can mention company names... Although I have anyway).

"We are now routing you to one of our chat team...

You are now connected with R****

R****: Hi, my name is R****. I'm here to assist you with your BT order.

James: hi

R****: Morning James

R****: How can I help with your order?

James: I'm just looking around at BB comps

R****: Ok

James: and was wondering if you traffic shape at BT?

R****: We do traffic shape, but we provide you with consistent speeds, even during peak times

R****: Who is your current phone and broadband provider?

James: BT and Be*

R****: Are you still in a contract with them or free to leave please?

James: Free to leave, had it about 2 yearsHow do traffic shaping and consistant speeds go together?

R****: As other providers that also traffic shape would be slower

R****: BT always give you the best speed possible on your line. The speed prediction we have given here is an estimate. The actual speed is dependent on several factors such as whether you have internal wiring, our network management policy and the number of people using the internet at the same time

James: Be* doesn't traffic shape and their speeds are always the same. I'm really just looking around for, possible, faster BB and cost. I'd really rather not go back to a comp who slows my connection at peak times.

James: I don't want less speed at peak times than I get now

R****: Can I get your telephone number to check your speed with BT please?

James: sure,***********. I get around 7M at the Mo, on a 8M package

R****: Ok, one moment please

James: np, I think I get about the Max my line supports, but I was wondering about fiber optic lines

James: etc

R****: Please click here for your speed result

James: ta :)

James: ok, it says 7mb. Which is what I get now

James: I assume with traffic shaping I'd get less with you guys?

R****: And your speed should increase at the end of June to 30.9Mb download

James: how much would that cost?

James: I currently pay 13.50 and I can go to 24mb for about #19

R****: With BT Infinity Option 1 you will get up to 40MB download speed, BT Yahoo Mail, the BT Infinity Home Hub, Basic Security, Digital Vault and a 20GB download allowance.

R****: BT Infinity Option 1 is £19.99 a month on an 18 month contract.

R****: With BT Infinity Option 2 you will get up to 40MB download speed, BT Yahoo Mail, the BT Infinity Home Hub, Advance McAfee security, Digital Vault and a Unlimited Download allowance.

R****: BT Infinity Option 2 is £24.99 a month on an 18 month contract.

James: I thought you just said it would be 30mb?

James: aty the end of june

R****: Yes I did?

James: but you also said 40mb just above

James: is that the max?

R****: No, it says up to 40MB, it doesn't say that's the speed you will receive

James: so 30.9 is what I'd realistically get?

James: ok

R****: Yes that's right

James: What does BT think about the Digital Econ Bill?

R****: Sorry we were not able to continue our chat. Since I have not heard from you for some time, I am going to close this chat. You can visit www.bt.com at any time to find out about our products and services.

Thank you for chatting with us."

WTF? I asked a question about The DEB and she left me sitting there for 10 minutes and then disconnected me!!! I didn't expect to actually get an answer (possibly it was an unfair question to put to the person who I was chatting to), but I didn't expect to get ignored either! It is though, I think, a valid question for IP's. I wonder how Be* feels about it?
